Mango tree is a commonly used Indian tree which has lots of religious significance. Mango Tree is known to be a native of India but now it is also available in tropical countries. It is one of the best and popular tree in India and it significance name is Mangifera Indica. It bears very large bunches of tasty fruits.

In different languages of the country there are different names of this popular tree. In Bengali and Hindi it is known as Aam and in Telugu it is known as Mamada or Mamid and in Tamil it is known as Ma or Mangas.

Though there is no flower in mango trees but still one can easily identify this tree by its leaves, shape and bark. This tree can retain the leaves throughout the year. Usually this tree spreads to good extent with surplus height. Amazingly wind cannot break the tough mango leaves easily. Flowering of the mango fruit takes place in month of January to March.

Religious Significance of Mango Trees

In Hindu religion, mango tree has an important religious significance and Hindus consider this tree as the modification of the God Prajapati, which is the lord of all the creatures. Apart from this, mango leaves are used to decorate the rooms where marriage ceremonies take place. Also before entering the new home it is festooned with Mango leaves. Wood of this tree is useful in pooja and hawan and it is also considered as sacred because at the time of funeral people use wood of mango trees. The Hindus dedicate tree flowers to the Moon on the second day of the Bengalis Magha month. With all these importance and uses of mango trees it holds a huge place among the Indians.

Uses of Mango trees

Mango wood is also used in packing and for timber purposes. Bark produces a useful gum for medicine. Some parts of the mango tree are also used to cure the bleeding.
